Dan's Life

I have been informed that I MUST blog twice in the next twenty minutes, so here goes.

Today, I had college. The 7am lie-in a wonderful one, despite not getting to sleep until around half past 2. It was a good day actually, my favourite lecturer came back after 3 weeks paternity leave, after the premature birth of his first child, Oscar. He is doing well, and therefore, our lecturer was happy.  After a very amusing lesson, practically the whole group went to the cafe. Slap=up breakfast, I think – and then into practical. Working next to Luke is such a laugh. The boy is a living legend. After completeing an intermediate lighting circuit (at the third time of asking – poor :( ), it was time for luncheon, and a quick blast down the road to Sainsburys. Ahh, the times we had. Then another hour and a half of practical, which turned out to be paperwork, and a chat with Steve, and then home. A successful day, methinks.

Once home, I went to sleep on the sofa for 3 hours, completely exhausted.

Part 2 to follow…

Quite a day. It was a bit dull, to be honest, but very busy.

I fitted lights and then stripped…cables.

We haven’t wired the lights yet, just fitted them.

For instance, grid ceilings: Fitting the bulbs and bonding the wires so they don’t touch the metal grid. If wires do touch that grid, they could make the ceiling go live, which would be rather dangerous. So you have to bond the wire to a pipe or something.

I don’t know…I’m looking forward to college tomorrow: 7am, what a lie in.

You know when you hear yourself say something and you never, ever thought you’d say it? Yeah. Never thought I’d say 7am was a lie in.

Yeah…this is my blog apparently. Lovin’ that.

What a weird, weird few weeks. A bit of everything and nothing has happened and I think it’s just left me tired. Just generally tired.

So, anyway…life’s a bit good, I suppose. I picked up a prostitute today…

“Oh we’ve started this again, have we…”

Epic.

“This is going to be quite weird to read back, isn’t it?”

‘Mm…’

Dan.

Erm…I suppose I’d like to start this blog by welcoming our new bloggers, whoever they may be.

You get really busy, and don’t have time to blog for awhile and look what happens!

Oh well, anyway, I thought it was time for an update on my life.

I’m still an apprentice electrician, and I’m getting pretty bloody good at some of the skills involved now – and I just wired up a socket in my own house! I must be trusted…

Pool team is going pretty well, 3rd in the table currently, still pushing for promotion.

I went to a bonfire celebration last night, in Kent. The Kentish people really don’t know how to do bonfires. I still haven’t been to Lewes yet, mind, but the Hailsham Bonfire this year was spectacular. Tempted to join the bonfire society, to be honest.

For the Americans reading this post, who don’t know the history of the English (and particularly the Sussex) bonfire celebrations, I suggest you google “Guy Fawkes” and “Lewes Bonfire” and have a little read. I assure you, it is fascinating.

Anyway, must dash, places to see, people to do!

Later all,

Dan.

Good evening/morning, blogosphere.

What a week, eh? New job. Phoned my new employer up; “When am I being picked up?” “5:30am” “What?!?!”

Got home at 6. Every day apart from Thursdays – college days. And those are short days. This is going to kill me.

At least I’ll have a career soon. Am I ready for that? Fuck knows. All I know is I’m enjoying it – building site banter is epically funny.

Don’t expect too much from me on my 13 hour days, though. I’ll get around to it at the weekend.

Also, Pool Team update – 4 matches, 3 wins. Personal stats; 7 frames, 6 wins. All is going to plan. C’mon the Terminus.

Night all.

P.S. You’re not allowed to do that, you know. You’re just not allowed. What a kicker to end the week on.

Hello readers.

My apologies, as I have not blogged in far too long. I promise you all that I will write an uber-blog when I get the chance, but as I am having a great time in Hungary, I can’t. Sorry!

Dan.

P.S. Snow Patrol live are fucking amazing. And I love you.

My heartbeat slowed, my heart sank as she shut the door. And all I had done was given her a lift home.

Am I falling?

Bugger.

Dan.

Life is a thoroughly underwhelming experience, isn’t it?

You’re cruising along, about 16, and you think everything’s going to be amazing. ‘I’m never going to let life just pass me by, I’m going to do amazing things!’. And yet, here I am, typing away to probably about 3 people about how mundane everything is.

Like getting a job – you get your first wageslip, and you think ‘Oh yes, I’m rich!’ – that is, until all your money disappears into what seems like a black hole. But you still feel proud that you earned that money, and that feeling gets you by for a few months – then the inevitable disillusion sets in, and you realise you’re going nowhere. You have no ambition, you’re just happy to get through the day without getting too irritated with the people you have to deal with. I mean, what’s with that?!

I want to live a life of travel, amazing experiences, fun…Instead I sit at a desk in a Communist office block in the middle of a s*ithole and listen to people shout at me/cry to me down a telephone. And I can’t get another job for love nor money because of this horrible recession.

You know what? Fuck the recession. I’m going for a beer, a cigarette and I fully intend on doing as many fun, stupid, mental things as I can for awhile. We’re all going to grow old and die, after all. I’m not just gonna wait for that to happen.

Live fast, die young(ish)…

Dan.

I have just been to see ‘The Boat that Rocked’. Oh my word, that is a superb film. In fact, I worry slightly that by the end of this blog I may have run out of superlatives – but we’ll see.

The cast is fantastic – especially, in my very biased opinion, the casting of Rhys Darby – a brilliant stand-up comic and comic actor from New Zealand. I have embedded a wonderful short clip of his stand-up for your viewing pleasure.

Ahh, hilarious. Anyway, back to the film. All of the cast played fantastic roles, especially young Tom Sturridge, who looks a promising actor, and he was very ably supported by Nick Frost, Rhys Ifans, Tom Brooke and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Special mentions also to Kenneth Branagh and the fantastic Jack Davenport in his role as Dominic Twatt (the most obvious of running gags…).

The film is uplifting and frankly, f***ing hilarious. I urge you to watch it, although it is rated 15 for language and sexual content (mainly language to be honest, no penises here).

I leave you with a trailer of the film which I hope you shall enjoy very much. Like I said – go and see it!

Dan.

I have a new PC.

This makes me smile – no longer will I have to use my parents old old old laptop. I still need a new monitor, and much more RAM though – but it’s a start…

Also, Windows Vista is actually very very good. It has a great user interface. I love it.

Well, I have returned from the sunny shores of South-West England, feeling refreshed, relaxed, but slightly disappointed.

We left on a wave of optimism. The sun was shining, everyone was smiling. A good day. We stopped at the beautiful little town of Dawlish – it really is stunning – and drove through some simply amazing scenery. However, we then reached our campsite.

Our room was…basic. And just a little bit dirty – wasn’t too bad. It had the smallest TV I’ve ever seen, the most uncomfortable sofa I’ve ever sat on, and the hardest mattress ever. I may as well have slept on a plank of wood.

The rest of the holiday was a blur of small coastal villages, amazing scenery, and really good food. But returning to that chalet at night was unpleasant to say the least.

I did have fun watching a very entertaining 3-all draw between Torquay United and Plymouth Argyle – a soccer *cringes* game for our American readers. I also had a fantastic laugh with two friends of mine who are local, who drove half an hour to pick me up and took me to an all-night pool bar (where I may have thrashed them a little bit…) two nights in a row! Wonderful people!

The journey home today was incredibly tedious, but a good few days was had by all. Now, if England can stop this batting collapse, hopefully I shall be happy tomorrow too. C’mon England!

Dan.
